that a school with so many intelligent and active Asian Americans doesnt see anything wrong with using university funds to bring a self-proclaimed dating coach for Asian American men who is a part of a website called asianmanwhitewoman.com is a sad reality. How did no one on this Asian Pacific Student Coalition or one of UPenn’s 20% self-identified Asian American students call out this problematic event where you PAY him to “exploit and profit from the systemic emasculation of Asian men”?
plz read thoughts below, from API activist V. Truong:
Tran advertises “YES, YOU WILL PICK UP PLENTY OF WOMEN” to Asian American men on his website abcsofattraction.com. Not only is he exploiting and profiting from the systemic emasculation of Asian men, he is also objectifying women of all races. A concrete example of Tran’s misogyny is when he lists “lower quality women” in his article “13 Evil Women Who Exploit Asian Men,” calling these women, among other offensive labels, “attention whores” and “a royal pain in the ass.” He also stereotypes Russian females as women who are running away from “vodka-soaked men” and looking for Asian men to gain citizenship status: “If she’s showing genuine interest by bringing you home to the family for some of mamulya’s borscht then she’s probably for real. If she’s forcing papers under your face for her immigration and talking about white picket fences and a yard with a dog after a month or two of dating then it may just be time to tell her dasveedanja.” While Tran claims to be breaking down stereotypes of Asian men, he is also perpetuating racist and misogynistic stereotypes of women.”

Somebody at this skool better be inviting him just to grill the fuck outta him!

The Asian Pacific Student Coalition presentsJ.T. Tran, the “Asian Playboy”What does it mean to be an Asian in the dating world? What are the stereotypes and headwinds that Asians face in twentieth century romance? How can we move past common misconceptions of passivity? J.T. Tran is the founder, CEO, and lead instructor of the ABCs of Attraction. He leads a wide variety of bootcamps, seminars, and confidence workshops across the nation. Come hear him speak about the stereotypes facing Asian Americans today as they pertain to the dating world, and experience one of J.T.’s workshops in time for Valentine’s Day!

Now y’all know why I get tired of all the straight cis Asian American men framing the fucked up discourse on AA “emasculation.” It’s hard enough for AA queer, trans*, and women to have their issues, workshops, and programs addressed in AA student organizing (trust me I’ve been there) , but shit like this gets funded as events? How much honorarium is he being paid to speak out on “stereotypes facing Asian Americans today as they pertain to the dating world” through upholding misogynist, heteronormative, cissexist notions of masculinity?
